Walking Beam This wooden-gear kinetic sculpture is based on the "Walking Beam" apparatus used in early steam engine technology. Today a good example of the walking beam can be seen on most oil pumping rigs. This hand-powered art work is constructed of solid oak, mahogany and maple, antique brass and glass, and is mounted on flame-treated copper, measuring 24" X 36". Each complete revolution of this sculpture results in a very pleasant two note chime of solid brass bells. These sounds blend with that of the wooden gears, and emphasize the elegance and beauty of this piece. At rest it grabs the attention and draws the viewer in, surprising them with the opportunity to interact with this kinetic sculpture. "Walking Beam" won Best of Show at the Nashua, NH Greeley Park Art Show August 19, 2006. |
