Untitled With Lenses

As you can see I am trying to bring together my favorite elements in this piece; wood, glass and copper, and a little mystery. Encased in hand carved oak are 4 large glass lenses, that magnify the surface of the copper as this center piece revolves. Yes, it moves, by way of the small glass knob in the bottom right. The gears are all solid oak and you will find some iron, steel and brass mixed in as well. Engraved in the copper are strange symbols and characters that appear to be ancient Runes. As the piece revolves, these Runes are magnified and become more obvious. For the clever minded, there are clues to decipher these words from some dark mysterious past. The whole piece is mounted in a cabinet of mahogany measuring 20 X 34 X 3.5 inches, and finished with a high gloss.
